Gewürztraminer

The Gewürztraminer variety is one of 18 noble wine varieties, often referred to as “adult” Muscat. The prefix “Gewürz” meaning “savoury” refers to the aroma of this variety that comes from northern Italy (formerly South Tyrol). The wine is fragrant, floral, resembling the finest Turkish delight, primarily because of the expressive notes of rose petals and then of its strangely oily structure.

Character

Virtus’s Gewürztraminer is surprisingly dry wine, but because of its intense aroma, increased alcohol content and slightly lower total acidity content, it appears sweeter than it actually is. The most characteristic smell of Gewurztraminer is the aroma of litchi and Turkish delight made of rose, while at the same time one can recognize the aroma of red grapefruit, ginger, pineapple and lighted incense. Sophisticated and moderately full-bodied, this wine, well chilled, is a true pleasure during hot summer days.

Food matches for Gewürztraminer include:

Goose liver pate, smoked ham, smoked trout or herring, chicken salad, hard sheep’s and cow’s milk cheeses, fresh fruit.
