Pinot noir
The famous French grape variety, Burgundy’s hallmark, has a longstanding tradition that dates back as far as the 14th century. It requires particular growing conditions and special care at the vineyard that ensure top quality wine, and it still found its place in vineyards around the world.
Pinot Noir is a gentle and very sensitive variety, and its qualities present a great challenge before any winemaker.
The wines made from this variety are elegant and sophisticated and—depending on their quality and origin—they can be quite expensive.
Character
The 2014 Virtus Pinot Noir is complex, full-bodied, and deep ruby red in color—which is not so characteristic of the variety, but focused and diligent effort combined with climate attributes that have stayed with this variety from the vineyard to the last barrel have birthed a truly extraordinary Pinot .
If you peek into a glass of this noble wine, you will be overwhelmed bythe smell of ripe cherries, intertwined with black forest fruit, cocoa, and smoke. Layered but elegant in the mouth, with velvety tannins and a long finish, this wine agedfor 20 months in new French barriques.
