VIRTUS WINERY

VINEYARDS

The fantastic geoclimatic conditions of this region enable the cultivation of vines today, as well as thousands of years ago, as evidenced by the archaeological excavations of ancient sites. The presence of vines in Serbia has also been proven in fossil remains from the Bronze Age.
Currently, about 30 ha of the best quality land in the Mlav vineyards are under plantations, of which over 20 ha are in full swing. Measured from year to year, we expand plantations in accordance with our needs and market demand.

How we started

It was founded in the end of 2010 and it is situated at the territory of the Mlava district – Požarevac vineyards. Within the land complex of 55 hectares in Viteževo near Žabari and Svilajnac, at a distance of 20 kilometres from the Belgrade-Niš Highway, 30 hectares of vineyards were made, and the first stage of the construction of several production, administrative and tourist facilities, with a total area of 2000 m2, was executed.

Tradition

Today we are witnesses of and participants in the new wave in the wine production. Relying on our history and tradition, we are striving for the continuation of the thread of development of the Serbian viticulture. We hope to celebrate our wines outside the borders of our country and to manage to convey a part of its spirit in the wine drops.

Quality

With a view to obtaining supreme wines, we imported seedlings from France and formed plantations from the following sorts: Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Grigio, Gewürztraminer, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, Marselan and Prokupac.

Result

The wines are woven in the most natural way possible and bring above all the stamp of the soil from which the grapes come from almost ideal geoclimatic conditions for making top quality wines.

Vision

Our philosophy is to use the maximum of what nature gives us, while being careful not to disturb its balance in any way.

Our Timeline

Location

Bying the land

Our story begins with a group of friends and wine lovers that came to Viteževo searching for the perfect land for vineyards. Those first 20 ha were not selected by accident. Vineyards occupied that zone in the medieval times, and the spot on which our tower is soon to be erected offered a magnificent view from the heart of our vineyards.

Location

Making the vineyards

We had in front of us maybe the most important task: soil preparation and selection of the sorts that will be a perfect match for the soil they will grow on, the style of our winery, and, finally, the taste of wine-lovers.

2011

Location

Firtst bottles

We quickly realised that we were at the threshold of something really special. From the very beginning the wines got the style we have kept until today. Excellent reactions of the first buyers gave us the zest to go even stronger towards the future years. The awards at the world competitions for that first harvest were a mighty confirmation of all that.
